Newark Rowing Club has a very successful track record of junior rowing, being one of the first clubs nationally to be awarded British Rowing's 'Project Oarsome' status and be accredited as a centre for the coaching of junior rowing.

 

 

 All the clubs junior coaches are qualified and all are CRB checked. There is an appointed Child Protection Officer whose details can be found in the Contacts section. The club also has Clubmark status.  Junior rowing includes boys and girls from the ages 11 - 18 and the club currently has approximately 20 junior members. The juniors compete against other clubs and schools within their own age group and as well as taking part in local events the club also competes in both regional and national events.

Junior rowing is becoming increasingly popular but it is a highly competitive and demanding sport and all those wishing to compete at a reasonable level should be prepared to train at least two or three times a week. The junior squad is an inclusive group and all the coaches strive to ensure that the juniors both enjoy their rowing and benefit from being part of a friendly club with a broad membership base. The club has good links with both Newark and Grantham schools and supports the indoor rowing programmes in both areas.

Junior Learn to Row courses are run on a regular basis during the spring and summer and there is a discounted first year membership rate for those wishing to go on and join the club. The only requirement for those attending a course is that they are able to swim 100 metres in light clothing.

 Any parents that are interested can also become involved and are encouraged to help out wherever possible.

As well as being successful locally, in recent years the juniors have achieved success at national championship level and several have gone on to represent Great Britain as juniors and at Under 23.
